About the Program
North High School is proud to offer the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program.
The name “MVP” refers both to an educational philosophy and to a highly developed training program, which gives people the opportunity to explore and challenge the attitudes, beliefs and cultural norms that underpin gender-based violence, bullying, and other forms of violence. Through the program, participants are introduced to key concepts and strategies for implementing the programs core model—both at school and in the community.
The MVP training program encourages administration, faculty, and students to promote the prevention of harassment, abuse, or violence through a bystander approach.
The Three Goals of MVP Bystander Training
To help students and others develop a range of options for intervention in specific situations and scenarios;
To foster a peer culture ethos that motivates everyone to get involved in challenging and interrupting all forms of abuse, and helping to create a climate in which abusive attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors are seen as unacceptable, uncool and unwelcome;
To help people of all ages and backgrounds develop the skills to become leaders and mentors to others on the issues of sexual assault and relationship abuse prevention.
